You guys… we did a thing.. WE BECAME A SMART HOUSEHOLD! Not like intelligent smart but electronic smart!
By that I mean we have officially purchased a few of the Google/Nest products. I am so excited to share with you what we decided and purchase and why.
I’m sure many of you feel the same when I mention that I am the worlds biggest scaredy cat.
I am afraid of the dark, I am weary of everyone, I’m scared to be at home alone, and my heart beats out of my chest every time someone rings the doorbell.
(Seriously, lifetime and scary movies have really messed me up, lol).
Anyway, when we moved from our condo to our house, I was excited because we would finally have a front door that didn’t have a huge glass window.
Unfortunately for us, our new house front door is so large and in charge that it doesn’t have a peep hole!
Instead, you have to peak through the front blinds to see who is knocking on your door.
Just last month, my husband, Beau decided to purchase some of the Nest products starting with the video doorbell and I was so excited!
The Nest Video Doorbell
The Nest Video Doorbell comes with a user friendly app where I can keep an eye who stops by our house while I am inside the house or away at work.
The Nest products are interesting because if you have a Google Nest Home Hub you can connect it to the doorbell and answer video calls and or leave a message for whoever is at the door.
I will warn you however that the video doorbell does require a certain transformer to be able to connect to your home.
Video Doorbell Installation
My husband had to turn off the air and electricity for us to change the transformer in the attic. Ya’ll.. we are always the “we can do it ourself couple” instead of paying Best Buy $100.00 to install it, but I have to admit, I think we both almost called it quits at one point and paid for someone to install it for us.
The worst thing you can do is install the transformer in a tiny attic with no air in the middle of a Texas summer where it’s 110 out.
Just close your eyes for a minute and think about being in that position and wanting to kill each other as sweat is rolling down your body and you’re delirious.
After about an hour, we finally got the transformer installed and it was time to put the actual device up outside!
That my friends is another feat in its own. Another hour later and about 20 minutes of Beau drilling INTO our brick wall to hide the cords, we finally had our Nest Video Doorbell installed.
The Nest App
Admitedly, the video doorbell is a must have. It literally records everything on a 24/7 basis and alerts you of every motion and when someone rings your doorbell.
What I love the most is that I can check our live video feed when I’m at work or out of town. I can even look back at the last five days of video on the app too!
My number one favorite thing about the nest doorbell, is that I don’t have to peak through my blinds or blindly answer my door anymore without knowing who is there.
The app even has a cool feature called “familiar faces” and it captures a still photo of people who come to your front door. If you have family that comes over often, you can save their information to your nest app and when the doorbell recognizes them, it says “Mom spotted at front door.” This way you know exactly who is coming over!
Also, it does have a night vision feature so if someone comes over when it’s pitch black outside, you should still be able to make them out thanks to the HD video footage.
Secondly, when someone rings your doorbell you can talk to them from your device. If you have a google nest home hub, you can ask google to give a pre-recorded message to the person at the door, or if you hit the microphone option, you can talk to them yourself!
Final Thoughts/Amazon Prime Day
To me, this is so much safer and easier than opening the door to some stranger.
Now a days, you can never be too careful.
The Nest Video Doorbell is seriously such a wonderful device, and it makes me feel so much safer in my own home.
If you’re looking to get a new doorbell, this is the one I suggest. While it is usually around $190.00, with amazon prime day come up on July 15th, this will probably be on sale, and this is definitely a device and investment you don’t want to miss!
Let me know if you have a ring doorbell and what your favorite features are!
Also, stay tuned for next weeks Tech Tuesday where we dig into the Google Nest Home Hub!
